About the Pub
The Crown Inn at Marnhull featured in Thomas Hardy’s famous novel ‘Tess of the D’Urbervilles’ as ‘The Pure Drop Inn’ and retains many of its original features and character throughout, with inglenook fireplace, original wooden beams and even a priest hole (where catholic priests hid during the 16th century reformation period)
The Crown Inn at Marnhull is a 16th Century coaching inn steeped in centuries of history, located in the Blackmore Vale in North Dorset. It is said that this public house has offered refreshment to travellers since the 16th Century and possibly as early as the reign of King Henry V111.
