A report in the Ipswich Journal*** in Sep 1880 states that :
Married on the 14th at Melford Charles Harris Sewell, of the Lion Inn, to Charlotte, eldest daughter of Mr George Whittle also of Melford.
A report in the Bury & Norfolk Post & Suffolk Herald** on 02 Mar in 1886 states that : Mr George CANT, of the Lion Inn, Melford, was driving with a horse & cart, in the company of Mr B. Hurst, Organist, when near the Conduit, the horse fell, both occupants being precipitated into the road. Mr Hurst escaped unhurt but Mr Cant broke an arm & a thumb on the other hand.
