About the Pub
The Star Inn is the quintessential 16th Century English pub with its large log fires, oak beams, real ales & its warm, welcoming atmosphere. Since October 2011 seven local residents have formed a village consortium & are now the proud owners of this award-winning Free house (previously Greene King). The new Free House status has enabled the owners to offer a range of real ales with a focus on local East Anglian brewers. The ever-popular Woodforde’s Wherry is a permanent fixture with two further guest ales offering plenty of choice for the beer enthusiast. The consortium plans to enhance their Catalan style cuisine using locally sourced produce wherever possible. A new tapas menu has already proved very popular. The Star has a fascinating history, The building was constructed at the time of the Spanish Armada & is a late example of a hall house. The bar is situated in what was the open hall.
Historic Interest
First run as a "Beer House" in the 19th Century, when it acquired its name. Today it is a Grade II listed building in a conservation area, & boasts beautiful bressemer beams, carved oak beams in an old English style. Photographs of this pub and more historical information about it can be found at suffolkcamra.co.uk/pubs/pub/622
