About the Pub

CLOSED on 25 July 2019. Planning application GRANTED 25 July:

19/01948/FULL External alterations to the building in association with the continued use of the premises as a public house including 5 letting rooms on the first and part second and third floors and a self-contained manager's apartment on part second and third floors (Class A4).

As at July 2019 McMullen's were advertising for a General Manager and say "We’re planning a major development which will include a basement bar (subject to planning) and 5 individual boutique letting bedrooms. There will be a limited food offer, with the focus on delivering the exceptional operational standards of a drink-led Traditional London Pub with boutique Rooms."

There will be three parts to the renovation. The upper parts, which are in very poor state, are going into pub rooms to help support the viability of the building as a pub. The basement is being developed to improve the toilets and to provide for some additional trading space. The ground floor will maintain its current layout but will have a refurb. As with all of their pubs they will be selling beers from their Authentic Heritage cask range - AK, Country and IPA and possibly augmented with one of their seasonal beers which are sometimes branded under their Rivertown banner. Unfortunately Mac's can’t predict the precise period of closure. Apparently an adjacent tree is damaging the foundations of the pub and this needs Westminster Council’s involvement - so they are to some extent at the mercy of council timescales on this; the project is likely to take several months.

Previous description follows:

Corner pub catering mainly for the evening trade. The pub dates from 1759 and was rebuilt a century later at a cost of £1,994 by W Finch Hill; the disused doors indicate its Victorian class-segmented origins. Owned by McMullens since July 2013 and now tied to them. The licensee is one of the longest-serving at the same premises in the London area. Food can be ordered via the pub from a nearby Italian cafe. The venue is available for private hire at the weekends.
