About the Pub

Licensed 1852 and rebuilt in 1938, this is a sidestreet small and friendly family-run pub near Marylebone Station with wood panelling throughout and a small raised seating area at the rear. There is normally a carefully-selected range of up to six real ales often from smaller breweries, plus their full descriptions; check pub website for the current real ales. In common with many pubs the number of ales available may depend on the day of week. There is a Thai food concession.

There is a strong rugby union connection here and the pub may open at the weekend for big games on TV; note that some sports viewing here is by ticket admission only. The Philosophical Society of England (London) is one of the community organisations and groups that regularly meets at the pub. The venue's proximity to the Chiltern Line terminus generates early evening trade from thirsty commuters before they go home; and, unusually, beers from brewers near the line have been known to travel down on the train and end up at the pub!
