About the Pub
The Finborough Arms was built in 1868 by Corbett & McClymont to designs by the Godwins. Like so many Victorian pubs in those class-conscious days, the original ground floor featured three entrances which would lead to separate drinking areas for the various classes of customer. The Victorian sanitary pioneers Thomas Crapper and his brother were regulars, often starting their day here with a bottle of champagne!
The pub reopened at the end of February 2014 and in May 2015 was sold on. Note the painstakingly recreated pub sign from the original Whitbread design and found on a Whitbread playing card by Jeff Bell, previous landlord! Inside an L-shaped bar and ground-floor area are decorated in a fashionably minimalist style for the affluent locals, with stairs leading to WCs and a cellar area, with additional standing room and some niche seating. The beer cellar can be seen through glass doors. Three real ale handpumps dispensing the likes of Purity and Twickenham though only one or two may be on according to demand at the time. There are six taps for the craft/keg offering. The award-winning 50-seat Finborough Theatre remains on the first floor with bar opening at 1pm on Tuesday if a matinee is on. The likes of Paul Merton, Rachel Weisz, and Mark Rylance have performed here. The previous landlord Jeff also authors Stonch's Beer Blog at http://stonch.blogspot.co.uk/
The newly refurbished downstairs venue, The Cellar, promises "to bring the best new bands to West London and reinvigorate the music scene in the area". Open mic nights, see pub website.
As at January 2020 it has been reported that the local Council is investigating the installation of a kitchen at this venue.
