About the Pub

Rebuilt in 1894 and formerly a Younger's outlet, this pub is popular with office workers, theatregoers and tourists alike. Fronting onto the pedestrianised St Martin's Court, running between Charing Cross Road and St Martin's Lane, it can provide a welcome haven from the bustle of the West End. Up to three real ales are available and there is a menu of traditional pub dishes at prices reasonable for the area. The upstairs room serves as a restaurant or as a space for private functions.

Historic Interest

The pub has connections with pugilism and freemasonry. American champion boxer John Heenan stayed here when he came to England to fight prize fighter and former Brighton boatman Tom Sayers. It was also where the Lodge of Industry 18G met in 1846.
