About the Pub

CLOSED. Reported Sept 2021 being refurbed for possible reopening before end of 2021. As at March 2022 the website had expired. As at April 2022 it was reported that the inside was being stripped. Reported early May 2022 that the hoped-for reopening date was 16 May 2022.

Previous description follows.

A wedge-shaped building contains a narrow single bar, rebuilt in 1936 with a tiled exterior. First licensed in 1852 as a beer house, it later became part of Goring & Jenkins Lion Brewery Estate. After many years as a family-run establishment the venue was substantially refurbed in summer 2015 and reopened as what is described as an intimate neighbourhood pub. Inside some original features have been uncovered with period light fittings, wood-panelled walls from local churches and a giant hour-glass sculpture.

Food is of the snacking, grazing and platter-sharing variety.
