About the Pub

a handsome Grade II* Listed, former coaching inn dating from the 15thC, having 25 abandoned hotel rooms (although some of which are now part of the current owner's flat), a ballroom and a medieval cellar

Next to the Red Lion is the Market Hall, opened by Viscount Palmerston in 1860.

Historic Interest

One of the oldest established inns in Pontefract, the present fa├žade was designed by Robert Adam in 1776 for Sir Rowland Winn of Nostell Priory, here Robert Adam's original drawing can be found.
