About the Pub

The Beech was a regular in the Good Beer Guide for many years, famous across Manchester for the quality of it's ales. The latter part of the noughties saw it fall into decline & attracting an unsavoury clientele. After a couple of periods of closure between temporary landlord, new tenant Chris Clish, who has a long track record of well run pubs across the North West, took over in April 2010. Since then he and his team have turned the place round including a deserved return to the Good Beer Guide.

Knowing what The Beech was famous for, the first thing they did was get the beer right. Beginning with three cask ales, Timothy Taylors Golden Best, Landlord and Boltmaker, they quickly got the sales back. There are at least five guest ales which vary from regional and national names such as Wainwright, Hobgoblin and Moorhouse. Quality is generally good to excellent.

The team have returned The Beech to what is was of old - a true "heart of the community" local. The unsavoury element of customers have been banished, many clubs & groups who used to meet in The Beech have returned. There are regular craft fairs and a Quiz night 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 9pm.

The decor has been cleaned up, the furniture reupholstered but otherwise The Beech retains it's traditional layout. Entering into the front room, the bar faces you with it's bank of handpumps & fonts. To the right is The Snug, complete with ancient old encyclopedias & selection of games. A corridor down the right of the bar takes you past the toilets to the back room with more seating round the outside & plentiful tables & chairs for all. A few tables out front allow drinkers to watch the world go by on "fashionable Beech Road", while at the rear of the pub is an enclosed yard with more tables.

The pub sits on the very end of Beech Road adjacent to Chorlton Green. The Chorlton Green area offers a more peaceful atmosphere than the hustle & bustle of central Chorlton, but is only a short walk away. From Wilbraham Road, take Whitelow Road south (oposite Croma restaurant), crossing over Edge Lane before coming to The Beech on your left. From Barlow Moor Road, ten minutes along Beech Road from Chorlton Bus Station & Chorlton Police Station brings you to The Beech.

Food offering is limited to Accrington pork pies and bar snacks during the week but at weekends in the summer a variety of street food vendors set up in the pub's large beer garden to serve up tasty snacks to accompany your beer.

Well behaved children are welcome until 7pm.
