About the Pub
Large roadside pub which attracts mainly diners, so there are no facilities for visitors who require refreshments only. However the AGA-cooked carvery and main meal selections are very good value which is why this pub is so popular.
The oak-panelled lounge and a dining area are dominated by a large inglenook fireplace. Other walls divide the rooms into small nooks and crannies; and with many heavy oak timbers they give the pub a very cosy atmosphere. Access is from the roadside part of the pub.
The large function room is very popular for family parties, weddings, etc. and is accessed from the large car park.
Accommodation is available where guests can enjoy the splendid Shropshire countryside and the beautiful market town of Bridgnorth is only 1 mile away.
During the siege of Bridgnorth in 1646 many of Comwell's troops were billeted at this place
The main building is 700 years old and was first licensed in 1740 when beer was stored in a tithe barn on the opposite side of the road and conveyed to the pub in jugs. This barn has now been converted in to private residence.
The pub was named "Ye Olde Punch Bowl Inn" in the middle of the 19th century because of its association with the Whig party who were traditionally sherry and punch drinkers.
