About the Pub

This imposing old building in the High Street has been completely refurbished. Traditional family pub (children welcome) with community noticeboard. There is a public bar on the right and a restaurant on the left. The additional Arkell's available sometimes includes Donnington beers. Meals feature all sorts of meats and at least nine veg are available. There is also a large function room which has also been refurbished. Pub games include darts and crib.

Historic Interest

Building dates from 1704. A former home brew house. Bought by Arkells for £1200 in 1884. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries the local Magistrates met here monthly and the Purton Friendly Society was founded in here in 1787. A 1910 advertisement proclaimed 'Good accommodation for hunting gentlemen'.
