NOTICE: Venues need your support more than ever during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
A nationwide lockdown is currently in place in England, and you are required by law to stay at home. Hospitality venues can still provide food takeaway and delivery services, but can only sell alcohol by delivery service.
But please be aware that opening hours and services may be different to those displayed here. Before visiting or ordering from any venue, we strongly advise you to check its website or social media, or get in touch with them first to avoid disappointment.
If you see any details here that need updating, please let us know by submitting feedback on the pub.

About the Pub
The Barge Inn re-opened under new management on 24th May 2019, after having been closed for six months.
The approach to the pub might be considered uninspiring, going down a track through a wood yard then past some cottages on the right before you get to the actual pub at the end. The Kennet and Avon Canal runs right along side it and the campsite is behind.
The pub is at the centre of the crop circle region of Wiltshire and has an alien theme. The rear room has an impressive painted ceiling on the subject. There is music every Saturday and most Fridays.
Planning permission has been applied for to convert the attached barn into 4 letting rooms upstairs with a function room below which would be suitable for weddings parties and other entertainment. There will also be letting rooms in the main building and a one bed apartment in the attic.
Historic Interest
The Barge Inn was once known as the George Inn. It was roughly half-way along the canal and served as a bakehouse, slaughterhouse and shop for provisions for those living and working on the canal. The building was destroyed by fire in 1858 and rebuilt within six months. It was built just within the parish boundary of Stanton St Bernard to "serve the Honey Street wharf in Alton parish, which refused to allow drinking establishments".
