NOTICE: Venues need your support more than ever as they recover following the pandemic.

Indoor service has now resumed, but social distancing measures and table service are still compulsory, and you may need to book in advance.

Please be aware that opening hours and services may be different to those displayed here. Before visiting or ordering from any venue, we strongly advise you to check its website or social media, or get in touch with them first to avoid disappointment.

If you see any details here that need updating, please let us know by submitting feedback on the pub.

last updated 12 June 2021

We have redesigned our beer garden so it can now seat more people and have more space for social distancing (and shelter from the rain!) and this is open for drinks and snacks one evening & one day a week

Outside of these times, you pick up some lovely locally brewed fresh draught ale - see the 'drinks' page for more info

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT - From Saturday 19th June we will also be open Saturday evenings from 6pm - 10pm. No need to book - just turn up. Drinks and snack only. So the pub's full opening hours will be:

SATURDAYS 6pm - 10pm
SUNDAYS 12 noon - 5pm

* why is the indoors not open yet? - government guidance and EHO stipulations are still demanding social distancing, more ventilation and one way systems. Our pub is too tiny to achieve this. We very much want to open the building (it's been closed since 21 March 2020) and we will do so as soon as we can

About the Pub

Suffolk CAMRA Pub of the Year 2015, and East Anglia Pub of the Year 2015. The current owners have focused on green issues - renewable energy, recycling, local suppliers, sustainable living & appreciating the environment. Their adjacent campsite business - since summer 2009 (part of which was formerly used as the pub garden) is now open from May to October and is now called Alde Garden (see and offers a variety of camping options. The pub is a very cosy, traditional two-room pub, and is warmed by a wood-burner and wood-fired range. Gravity dispensed beers from local brewers are served through a taproom door. A range of Fairtrade, organic and local Adnams spirits is also available, and bar snacks are served. Hot snacks heated using the wood fired range. Some excellent non alcoholic cocktails (mocktails) are also available. Live music twice monthly on Saturdays. There is a piano and various pub games are offered including bar billiards, darts, crib and board games. Horse & trap rides available in summer.
