NOTICE: Venues need your support more than ever during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Under this stage of the roadmap in England pubs can only open outdoor areas and many will only be open for customers who have pre-booked. Alcohol can now also be sold for takeaway, as well as delivery.

But please be aware that opening hours and services may be different to those displayed here. Before visiting or ordering from any venue, we strongly advise you to check its website or social media, or get in touch with them first to avoid disappointment.

If you see any details here that need updating, please let us know by submitting feedback on the pub.

Updates

The pub has reopened. The current plan is for a one-off opening on April 12th from 1500, thereafter Thursdays 1500 onwards and Fri/Sat/Sun 1200 onwards. There will be no food to start with, but heat at home meals will continue.

So after the most recent announcement we will be shut for the foreseeable, however we will continue to offer our "Heat at Home" menu which can be found below [on the pub's website].

We are also offering takeway pizza night on Saturdays from 5-8pm . Ring us to place your order sooner rather than later to guarantee a slot!

Please ring us 01787 212396 any time before 6pm daily to order from our "Heat at Home" menu.

About the Pub

This recently refurbished open-plan family run pub with a single bar now offers GK IPA, Adnams and guest beers from small local brewers. Cellar being refitted in Jan 2012. Pub is popular with local football and cricket teams and also offers traditional food. The building dates from the early 19th century and has a L shaped counter in a large open-plan single bar and a large garden and car-park.

Historic Interest

Prior to 1851, the pub was in Stoke by Nayland so may appear in old records under that village. In Mar 1981 edition of Last Orders*** it was reported that Peter & Janet at the Hare & Hounds were hosting folk club nights (last Tues of month) & offering GK beers on gravity. Photographs of this pub and more historical information about it can be found at suffolkcamra.co.uk/pubs/pub/612
