About the Pub

A traditional pub serving fine ales and delicious wines with scrumptious home made food in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Lots of seating is available around a central bar area. Outside there's more seating and enclosed beer garden. Families and dogs are welcome. Holds the Cask Marque Award for serving great quality real ale.

Historic Interest

The 1904 Woodbridge licensing records show that the White Horse's license was issued in 1853. Whether this was when it was first licensed or when it got a full (ie not just beer) license isn't clear, though the latter seems more probable. An earlier building dates back to at least 1712. The current building opened in 1904 on the same site. A paperback book published in 1969, called "Inns of the Suffolk Coast" by Leonard P Thompson** contains the following extract: In 1712, licences were being granted at the Pellicane, in East Bergholt & one was agreed for Benjamin Everston at "Whitehorse, Felixstow". The present inn was built in 1904, at the rear of it's predecessor. Photographs of this pub and historical information about it can be found at suffolkcamra.co.uk/pubs/pub/292
