Greene King

About the Pub

One of a number of historic listed pubs in the town, whose most famous inhabitant was Oliver Cromwell. The room layout and character was happily preserved in a sensitive renovation in the 1990s and has changed little since. Serves two regular real ales and a changing range of up to beers many sourced from local breweries, with full use being made of the SIBA direct delivery scheme, and some from further afield. The house beer Royal Oak Best Bitter is brewed by Greene King There is at least one cider from Weston's.

A Good Beer Guide entry and current Hunts CAMRA Dark Beer Pub of the Year. It was also the branch LocAle Pub of the Year for 2017.

There is a discount on the real ales for CAMRA members, however this doesn't apply to one rotating beer that is sold at a discounted price or during happy hour.

No food is served apart from crisps, nuts etc. with filled rolls available on Saturday/Sunday & Monday lunchtimes. However customers are usually welcome to bring in a takeaway from the fish & chip shop across the road.

All televised sports events are shown on three TV screens. There is live music on Saturday nights.

Historic Interest

Despite the date 1502 over the door, most of the building dates from the 18th century.
