About the Pub

The pub claims to have origins as far back as 1190 and is reputed to be the 2nd oldest inn to be granted a licence. The oldest part of the existing building retains a thatched roof and probably dates from the early 17th century. With extensions and alterations over the centuries there are three distinct areas, a bar area, dining room and snug. It has a stellar reputation for its food so there's limited standing room for drinkers, the rest of the lounge, snug and bar area being set aside for diners. Many awards have been won for the superb quality meals. A loyalty card can be applied for on the pub website, it offers 5p back on every full pound spent, the discount is credited to your card and is can be redeemed against all food and drink purchases. The pub is small and crowded so there is no access for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Dogs are not allowed.

Historic Interest

The building dates from the first two decades of the 17th century but is much altered. Mrs Louisa Foster was a brewer until about 1902 when she was succeded by Lewis Foster, who is last referred to as a brewer at the Hollybush public house in 1910.
