About the Pub
Old pub on a busy crossroads but quiet inside. An eclectic mix of rooms and furniture with various areas for small groups to gather, some set aside for dining. The main feature is the home cooked food which is served every day. The music in the background does not impose itself. The Howard Miller skeleton long case clock is a notable feature.
The station for the Cambrian Heritage Railways is nearby. This is formed on the trackbed of the former Cambrian Railways line which ran from Whitchurch to the Irish Sea at Aberystwyth!. And as to the name Llynclys, "Llyn" is the Welsh word for lake, and Llynclys Pool still lies near to the village. "Clys" was thought to be derived from "llys", (Welsh for "palace" or "court"), and the lake, supposed to be of extraordinary depth, was said to contain a drowned city or palace with various legends attached to it. This serves as a reminder that hereabouts. the very penetrable national frontier is close by!
There's a building attached to the pub which apparently used to serve as a brewery up to the 1950's! In its time the pub has been owned, not only by the Wrekin Brewery of Wellington, but was also a part of the extensive local estate of the Shrewsbury & Wem Brewery.
New management from November 2019.
