About the Pub

This is another of those places where beer miles are minimal, as the Six Bells Brewery is in the rear yard. In fact, it’s set on the site of the original brewery which closed in the early 1900’s! The pub itself is Grade II Listed and is of the traditional two-roomed layout, with a public bar and lounge. The bar is very much a typical friendly rural retreat with exposed stone walls, low beams, copperwork, wood burner, inglenook, settles and the buzz of conversation. The lounge doubles as the dining room and is tastefully done out in the cottage style. Additionally, the 6 Bells Cafe is in the old brewery in the yard and serves cakes teas and light snacks. Participates in the town’s beer festival each July. One of fifteen pubs in the Branch area which appeared in the first Good Beer Guide in 1974. And here's what it said "Greenall Whitley (Wem) bitter & mild. Small comfortable pub" At that time it was a Shrewsbury & Wem Brewery house, but it has been owned by the Wrekin Brewery of Wellington as well. These days the beers on offer are all from the Six Bells portfolio with four regular beers plus up to two seasonal offerings. As a matter of interest, the Brewery has produced 28 new beers in the 2.5 years since the current owners took over. (as at April 2017)
