About the Pub

Good real ale pub in the heart of old Hatfield Town c1226.Very close to Hatfield train station.Eclectic mix of locals,several alcoves and small rooms lead off the bar.Three real ales on tap, good conversation with the locals. In the local darts league, live music on Saturday evening's, open mic on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month.a well has been found in the beer garden dating from 1836.

Historic Interest

The original pub was built 1226 and frequented by notorious eighteenth century highwayman Dick Turpin. It's is now chiefly remembered as the resort of a purely fictional character Charles Dickens Bill Sykes who in Oliver Twist thither after having murdered his mistress Nancy.Charles Dickens stayed at this inn on 27 December 1838
