About the Pub

Carol and Peter took over this cruck-framed inn in 2013 and have transformed it. Mainly of Tudor origin, it is situated on a charming terrace 400 yards up from the railway station in one of the oldest parts of town. Being one of Greene King's 'Local Heroes' pubs, this allows for three beers from the Greene King portfolio to be accompanied by three beers from local breweries. The Greene King beers include Abbot Ale, Hardys and Hansons Bitter (badged as Queen's Head Bitter) plus one other. The guest beers from local breweries often include those from Loddon, Hogs Back and Binghams. Beer paddles with three third-pints make it easier to sample several different ales for one visit to the bar. The real fire creates a cosy feel in winter and there is a large, well-designed re-furbished rear garden with a covered area and is the venue for the local Aunt Sally team. There is also additional seating on the south-facing front terrace. Bar snacks are generally the only food served, but occasionally a speciality food night is held. This is normally advertised on the notice board outside the pub along with the food on offer. Children welcome until 8 pm. Voted Local CAMRA Branch Pub of the Year 2015, 2016 and 2017, also Berkshire Pub of the Year 2015 and 2016.

Due to the corona virus, beer supplies are limited to what the breweries can provide. Greene King Abbot and Queens Head Bitter, plus Lodon Ferrymans Gold and Stardust English Bitter are on tap.

LATEST NEWS - Just awarded Berkshire South East Branch Pub of the Year for 2021. In addition to their high scores against the judging criteria, they also went the extra mile (Health & Safety training, getting additional equipment for the kitchen, operating at a loss) to ensure that they remained open during the most difficult of times. Warmest congratulations go to Carol, Peter and all the staff at the Queens Head.
