About the Pub

Dating from the 18th century and reputedly the oldest pub in Sandhurst, this family-friendly pub is always worth a visit, being about five minutes walk from Sandhurst railway station. Seven handpumps are situated on the single bar, one serving Otter Bitter on a permanent basis and six changing guest beers including at least one LocAle, which is reduced in price. One of the pumps also 'flexes' between a real cider and a real ale. Two beer festivals are held, one over Easter and the other around Halloween. Both have up to 20 real ales available plus a good selection of real ciders. These are well worth attending as the licensees go out of their way to decorate the pub and dress up in their own inimitable way. Craft fairs are held monthly between the months of May and September and there is live music most Monday and Saturday evenings. Children and dogs are welcome and outside there is a large garden and children’s play area at the rear. At the front and rear there is decking with two smoking areas. The pub has a good reputation for the quality of its food with the Sunday lunches being very popular, so booking is recommended. Please note that no food is served on Monday lunchtime. Currently on Real Ale Mondays, all ales are £3 per pint (or £2.80 with CAMRA discount). Then on Tuesday you can buy a drink and help yourself to the free pot of hot broth and some bread. The sports TV's are on but the volume is muted enabling lively bar-side chatter by the locals. This pub is a past local CAMRA Branch Pub of the Year and has featured in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide in recent years.
