About the Pub

On CAMRA's national inventory of pub interiors of outstanding historic interest, this 14C building was originally used as church house for St. Thomas's, later usage included that of a brothel. The three small bars are known locally as 'the Horsebox', 'Death Row' and the 'House of Lords'. Recorded as being an inn from the 16C, at one time the original chop house. Interesting and historical features include a pewter topped bar, a mummified hand and rows of taps which at one time were used to dispense spirits and fortified wines. The floor tiles in the main bar were purchased from Salisbury Cathedral in the 18C for approx. £3. Magnificent exterior of beams and plaster is echoed internally by oak panels and beams. A must for whisky drinkers, with up to 130 varieties of malts.
