NOTICE: Venues need your support more than ever during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Under this stage of the roadmap in England pubs can only open outdoor areas and many will only be open for customers who have pre-booked. Alcohol can now also be sold for takeaway, as well as delivery.

But please be aware that opening hours and services may be different to those displayed here. Before visiting or ordering from any venue, we strongly advise you to check its website or social media, or get in touch with them first to avoid disappointment.

If you see any details here that need updating, please let us know by submitting feedback on the pub.

About the Pub

Bungalow-style pub in a farming village, originally a house built using stone from a watermill that stood on the site until the 1960s. The pub was crowned local CAMRA Rural Pub of the Year 2008. In a handy location for walkers, with access to Roche Abbey and Laughton, it has extensive gardens by the brook providing seating. Good value food is served. Sunday lunches are served form noon until 4pm. Orignally opened as a pub by Stones Brewery as a replacement for the original Travellers Rest, now the Cartwheel Restaurant, it was sold to Hardy & Hansons, then acquired by Greene king. The guest beer policy has improved of late and is not always from the Greene King Brewery. Full meals and bar snacks are served. There is a pool table in the tap room side. The pub suffered damage during the November 2019 floods but had reopened by early Decembe, under new managementr.
