About the Pub

In existence before 1554 as the Bell and for some time a coaching inn. In the 19th century claimed to have stabling for nearly 100 horses and supplied the Volunteer Fire Brigade. Much renovated and restored but still with historic traces and a pleasant garden in the old courtyard, now much reduced by the addition of a large conservatory for more diners. There are a number of rooms including two meeting rooms upstairs. Under new management from September 2018 with alterations and refurbishment carried out in summer 2019.

Historic Interest

Historic Coaching Inn. Listed Grade II. Mainly C18 with possibly some C17 remaining. Local tradition says Charles I used it as an operations centre during the civil war but no direct evidence.
