About the Pub

Rescued from almost certain oblivion by Everard's Brewery in the summer of 2014, this was formerly a struggling Punch leasehold that had seen no investment for decades. The brewery has invested a lot of time and money in transforming the place from a run down tatty pub into a classic village local. The thatched building itself must be one of the oldest in the village and probably dates back to the 17th century. It retains two bars, and the former public on the left has been beautifully restyled into a comfy snug. The L-shaped main bar on the right has very low ceilings (so beware!), leading to a small restaurant (which doubles as a function area). Up to two guest ales accompany the two Everard's regulars. An old photograph reveals that this was once a Hopcraft & Norris tied house and the beers would originally have been brewed at nearby Buckby Wharf. It was later to become part of the large Phipps estate, which in turn succumbed to Watneys in the 1960's. Fortunately, this pub was spared much of the internal structural devastation wreaked during that period. Under its first Everard's tenants, the pub was CAMRA's Northamptonshire Rural Pub of the Year in 2016, with previous awards including Good Beer Guide 2017 (the first ever entry for a Long Buckby pub in the GBG); CAMRA Northants, Rural Pub of The Season Autumn 2016; Winner of Best Rural Pub, the Northamptonshire Food and Drinks Awards 2015. In June 2019 the pub lost its much loved tenants and is now managed by Bolley Pubs Ltd of Leicester a small privately owned pub chain. Food available all week, except Mondays. Note the new extended opening hours. After taking a severe nose-dive, beer quality has recently much improved with the arrival of a keen new manager, Alison Weston. The quiz nights on Sunday are very popular. Alas, the CAMRA members discount was discontinued by the new operating company on taking over the premises.
