About the Pub

Re-opened February 2015, after a refurbishment, this village pub now offers quality food, as well as real ale. It is a large whitewashed building, with outside seating to the front, with a decked seating area to the rear.

Historic Interest

In 1876 the pub was know as the Volunteer and was fully licensed under publican John Sears (Post Office Directory). The Old Volunteer forms a local name cluster with the Old Volunteer in nearby Carlton. [Newark & Sherwood District Council; Dover Beck Ward / Newark Parliamentary Constituency]
