About the Pub
Large prominent estate pub with plenty of parking and a large enclosed rear garden. Pass the "beach bar" at the side of the main entrance to the two separate rooms, which are the basis of a traditional typical community pub. The public bar has TVs, two dartboards and a pool table along with raised tables and chairs, with an adjacent outdoor heated smoking area, also with TV. The L-shaped lounge is comfortably furnished with the rear area leading to the outdoor garden area, one corner of which has a children's play area. The food available does not dominate but is varied, very well priced and available until 10pm. Along with other GK pubs there is a beer loyalty card.
Historic Interest
"Hotel for Mssrs Hansons Ltd, West Bridgford UDC planning applications no.7235. Date of deposit, 1 9 1955, approved 19 9 1955; date of notice 23 11 1955, inspected (presumably on completion) 11 July 1956. C/PS/B/33/16: Plans and elevations by W. B. Starr, Hall and Clifford for Hansons, dated February 1955." "This is a large domestic design with big tiled eaves. The handsome plans show a front lounge with a public bar to the right behind its own entrance and lavatories, with a small off-sales wedged into the corner between them. To the left of the lounge a lobby serves not only it and more lavatories but leads beyond to what is described as a ‘lounge hall’ served by an extension to the lounge counter and an assembly hall. There is a long service area because of the assembly hall at the rear, with a case store on its opposite side, and a small basement. There is a large car park to the front and formal gardens laid out to the rear. A perspective hanging in the public bar shows the angled off-sales entrance between the two bars. The pub today is significantly different from these plans and elevations. It has had a new and larger entrance added, which incorporates an additional bay to the public bar where the off sales was; although otherwise the public bar survives well, with its original counter and a pool table. The bar counter and service area to the lounge also survive, but the space has been knocked through to the old entrance and the lounge hall incorporated. The puzzling part is behind this; it is not clear whether the assembly room was ever built, or if has been demolished; there are stone mullion windows like those in the bars set in stretcher bond walling that is noticeably cheaper than the Flemish bond found in the rest of the building. Was this a temporary measure?" (Elain Harwood {Historic England}). As at November 2017, the freehold (NT90354) for the Meadow Covert was held by Greene King Retailing Limited [Reg. No. 5265451].
