About the Pub
Historic Interest
The Four Bells is an Asset of Community Value, registered by Gedling Borough Council on the 15th July 2016 and nominated by the Nottingham Branch of CAMRA. The Four Bells is in Gedling Borough Council's Woodborough Conservation Area. Named for the number of bells in St. Swithuns church tower at the time the name was coined. Apparently, there are now six bells in the tower! [Nottingham Drinker Issue 119]. In the 1823 Alehouse Recognizances for the South Thurgarton Hundred, the Four Bells was under victualler John Gadsby (County Archives C/QD/LV/4/7/33). Fully Licensed in 1855 under W. Gadsby, in 1876 the publican was William Reavill (Post Office Directories). A former Home Ales tied house, as at November 2017 Freehold NT244299 was registered at the Land Registry to Red Star Pub Company (WRII) Limited (Reg. No. SC202689). At the same time, Leasehold NT471100 was registered to TJT Enterprises Limited (Reg. No. 7351282). [Gedling Borough Council; Dumbles Ward / Woodborough Parish Council / Nottinghamshire County Council; Calverton Division / Sherwood Parliamentary Constituency]
