Historic Interest

The Cadland is named after the Duke of Rutland's thoroughbred racehorse Cadland (1825–1837). In a racing career which lasted only for the years 1828 to 1831 he ran twenty-five times and won fifteen races. Famous for running a dead heat in the 1828 Derby with The Colonel, before winning the race in a deciding run-off. He later went on to develop a notable rivalry with his contemporary Zinganee. Formerly a Bass tied house, the Cadland freehold (NT379625) was registered to Mitchell's & Butler's Retail Limited (Reg. No. 24542) as at November 2017.
