Flaming Grill (Greene King)

About the Pub

Near Bramcote/Stapleford border and part of the Flaming Grill Pub Co brand. Popular with diners and sports fans, meaning the bar can get busy at meal times and when major sporting events are shown, especially football. A large circular bar dominates with various styles and levels of seating surrounding. Local beers feature occasionally, but often rotate with national brands.

Historic Interest

Formerly a Shipstone's tied house, the Sherwin Arms it takes its name from the family who occupied nearby Bramcote Manor House and then Bramcote Hills House, which was demolished in 1966. Built in 1935 on the site of a previous pub of the same name. The Derby Road from Nottingham was turnpiked in 1759 to Bramcote Odd House. In 1784 the road to Smalley Common was also turnpiked with a toll gate at the Odd House. The tolls for both roads were removed in the 1870s. The Odd House, was situated at or very near the Ram Inn which was in turn the forerunner of the original Sherwin Arms. ( Sadly, this pretty 1930s building has been ruined by the current owner's garish orange paint work. As at November 2017, the freehold for the Sherwin Arms (NT349516) was held by the Spirit Pub Company (Managed) Limited (Reg. No. 5269240), a Greene King subsidiary. [Broxtowe Borough Council; Bramcote Ward / Broxtowe Parliamentary Constituency].
