About the Pub

July 2022 - The Baring has reopened as a quite posh gastropub/restaurant with

seating area at the bar but most tables set up for dining (though when visited some punters were just having a session). No real ale at the moment but they will have 2 Harbour brewery beers in future. Reopened under the management of Adam Symonds and chef Rob Tecwyn.

Oct 2020 - being refurbished and sign now says the Baring (old name coming back???). The Poet appears to be about to revert to its proper name, The Baring.

Local authority listed, imposing, cosy back street corner pub. Worth seeking out. The pub underwent a full refurbishment many years ago, including repairs to damage inflicted by the Luftwaffe! Close for the Regent's canal and former Gainsborough film studios. Nearest tube for some will be Angel.

Historic Interest

Locally listed:- Fine 19th Century pub front (1840s), with good overall proportion and design, excellent well preserved details, e.g. capitals to pilasters. It is three storeys and and constructed from yellow stock brick. Set five bays with quoins and parapet. First floor has central window with triangular pediment, ground floor rendered and has coupled Corinthian pilasters at outer corners. Centrally placed door with pilasters framing the entrance, and separating the window bays. Original windows on upper storeys, with large glazed windows to ground floor. Early 19th century with later alterations.
