NOTICE: Venues need your support more than ever during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
Under this stage of the roadmap in England pubs can only open outdoor areas and many will only be open for customers who have pre-booked. Alcohol can now also be sold for takeaway, as well as delivery
But please be aware that opening hours and services may be different to those displayed here. Before visiting or ordering from any venue, we strongly advise you to check its website or social media, or get in touch with them first to avoid disappointment.
If you see any details here that need updating, please let us know by submitting feedback on the pub.

About the Pub
In 1846 The Canonbury Tavern was demolished and rebuilt on the same land. In the early 20th century the top floor was removed following a fire and never replaced. This is why the staircase leads to nowhere. George Orwell, who lived in Canonbury Square, wrote part of 1984 whilst sitting under the tree in the garden in the 1940's.
In Feb 2018 initiated a 20% discount for CAMRA members. But on a visit in Feb 2019 the discount was not available, we are seeking clarification.
Historic Interest
Grade II listed:- C.1846. Grey brick and stucco, roof not visible. Two storeys. The principal facade to Canonbury Place is of three bays, the ground floor having a single-storey projection running the full width of the facade and flanked by entrance wings with entablatures; the projection, possibly an addition, is faced with stucco and has flat-arched windows flanked by paired pilasters, fascia, cornice and parapet. First-floor windows are flat-arched with stucco architraves and cornices on consoles above. Simple moulded cornice of stucco; parapet. Single-storey wing to the east. Cast-iron railings to garden with fleur-de-lys and pineapple finials.
