About the Pub

Gordon is your host and Licensee who puts Service, Beer Quality and good food as essential elements in running a great pub. Dating back to 1753, then known as the Royal Oak, it became the Trooper Alehouse in 1803 after a visit by the Duke of Wellington. The central bar has original low beams and is decorated with military prints. Two guest beers usually from Dark Star and another local ale compliment the 3 regulars. A converted stable adjoining the pub, the Troopers Eating House, has seating for 60 diners. A popular destination for cyclists and walkers. Local CAMRA Pub of the Year 2017 and a Good Beer Guide regular in recent years.
