About the Pub
This was originally built in the 19th century by the local bigwig’s daughter as her marital home after she had come back from her honeymoon in Switzerland and you can definitely see the alpine influences in its chalet like architecture. At one time the pub was perversely given an Indian Raj theme but following a more recent refurbishment much of the original house is now open to be seen. With the mansion came impressive grounds to the front. Mature trees and well-tended lawns lead you to the entrance. If you go to the pub, and get an opportunity to speak to the management couple they are a mine of information on the history of the place. It is simply a really great pub. A thorough refurbishment took place in mid-2017; this did not affect any of the historic features. Children are allowed in during dining times. Food is served Tuesday to Sunday. They have quiz nights every Thursday. History: Re-opened 14/10/2019 as new tenants found. Closed and boarded 28/5/18 as brewery awaits a new tenant.
