NOTICE: Venues need your support more than ever during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Under this stage of the roadmap in England pubs can only open outdoor areas and many will only be open for customers who have pre-booked. Alcohol can now also be sold for takeaway, as well as delivery.

But please be aware that opening hours and services may be different to those displayed here. Before visiting or ordering from any venue, we strongly advise you to check its website or social media, or get in touch with them first to avoid disappointment.

If you see any details here that need updating, please let us know by submitting feedback on the pub.

About the Pub

This bar is a welcome return to the fold, a former pub which turned into a fashion shop and is now restored to a pub again. Its good to see another new Northern Quarter‘s growing number of establishments. Once called the Haunch Of Venison, then had a spell as Nickleby’s. It now supports a gardening theme, the owners hailing from the far west of Wigan.

The theme inside has a rustic air to it, and a slightly unfinished look about it. It is opened out with a central bar, divided into areas such as the ‘Tool Shed’ and things you will find inside include the likes of lampshades made from upturned buckets, watering cans, plant pots, a picket fence against one wall, a corrugated iron bar front and lots of other horticultural bits and pieces. This is all accompanied by light wood and pine furniture, with wooden flooring.

On the food and ale front, there are four handpulls for cask ales mainly from the North West. They have their own brand lager, ingeniously titled ‘Dirty Hoe’, Bacchus Kriek (a French styled cherry beer) and other bottled varieties. A wide and varied food menu is served from opening time until around 9 pm. There is piped music but not at a level to spoil conversation.

Opened on 1st August 2014.
