About the Pub
A flagship real ale pub in the area but under new management since Aug 2009 so under the spot light. Deceptively large, it was originally two cottages, built around 1700, and in its most recent guise, possesses a number of intimate drinking areas. Atmosphere is provided by the stone flagged floors and open fires during colder months. With four cask ales including at least one from local micros. The pub is used by the local dominoes, crib, darts, bar skittles and pool teams and has its own soccer team in the local league. Reduced beer prices for cask conditioned ales on Monday nights.
Leaving the main A523 Macclesfield-Stoke road at the traffic lights for the Langley and Wincle road, you cross the West Coast Main Line, and find the pub on your right. It's name is particularly appropriate, given that the patio at the rear, also the smoking area, overlooks the line, and would provide an idyllic spot for railway buffs. Gets busy when the local football team, Macclesfield Town, are at home when excellent pies can be had for a good price. About one mile from Macclesfield station, towards the football ground.
