About the Pub

Situated just to the east of the main Broadway on the old road to Alresford, this is a good value drinkers' pub - no food and no frills - in an area where tourist pubs and bars predominate. There are a number of rooms; the one in the rear can be used as a function room but otherwise hosts the darts board and the DJ equipment. The raised area to the left has a pool table. A rear courtyard provides an outdoor area.

Historic Interest

The building (or front part, at least) was once the prison to the Bishops Court and there was said to be a now blocked underground passage to the court. The front part dates from around 1600, restored in the 19th century but with cellars remaining from an earlier building. Rear part is late 18th century with 20th century alterations. Grade II Listed. Historic England list entry 1095315.
