About the Pub
Whitsbury hides among the hills of borderland, where Hampshire rolls towards Dorset and Wiltshire. It is racehorse country; Desert Orchid was trained at Whitsbury Manor Stables. This 18th-century building was originally farm cottages, and has housed a wheelwright's and the village bakery (a defunct oven remains). The interior is on two levels and divided into several areas - beamed, wood-panelled, bare-bricked, and with seating that includes settles and pews. Three handpumps serve two changing ales from local breweries and one cider. Food is available lunchtimes and evenings most days and is competitively priced for the area while not sacrificing quality. Booking or calling ahead is advised as the pub often closes for private functions, wakes weddings etc.
