About the Pub

Refurbished and reopened as the Bear at Carriages in August 2020.

Near the bottom end of the steep High Street, this former wine bar, now restaurant and bar, is divided into three sections, the middle section with the bar counter being more suited to casual drinking in normal times. A small, low ancient building with well worn quarry tile floor and even older looking exposed wall timbers, the furnishings are a mixture of chair styles with suitably old tables. In the dining oriented side rooms the furniture is more formal, these rooms are at much lower and higher floor levels due to the steepness of the High Street. At the back is a covered terraced area leading out to a south facing garden overlooking Knaresborough's Grade II listed railway station. Serves a regular cask ale from either Kirkstall Brewery in Leeds, or the local Turning Point brewery, as well as a number of keg options.
