About the Pub

Formerly known as the Black Swan and then the Swan on the Stray, this Market Town Taverns pub was refurbished in a modern style in 2016. Although once a two-room pub with a central corridor this is long gone but the vestiges of that layout remain in two distinct areas, one with an L-shaped counter. Handpumps are located on one side serving beers from Yorkshire breweries. There is a beer garden at the rear, and well-behaved children and dogs are welcome until 8pm.

Note that the pub may close early at quiet times.

Historic Interest

An inn known as the Black Swan is believed to have stood on this site since the latter part of the 18th Century. Devonshire Place was a major coaching run with coaches stopping at the many inns including the Black Swan.
