NOTICE: Venues need your support more than ever during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

A nationwide lockdown is currently in place in England, and you are required by law to stay at home. Hospitality venues can still provide food takeaway and delivery services, but can only sell alcohol by delivery service.

But please be aware that opening hours and services may be different to those displayed here. Before visiting or ordering from any venue, we strongly advise you to check its website or social media, or get in touch with them first to avoid disappointment.

If you see any details here that need updating, please let us know by submitting feedback on the pub.

About the Pub

Friendly town centre pub which re-opened in 2014 after previous short-lived incarnations. Pleasant chatty atmosphere inside and in the seating area on the pavement outside. Would benefit considerably from the re-introduction of real ale.

Closed again 2015 and premises now occupied by a florist. It is to be hoped that the ornate tiling at the front entrance will be preserved.

Further update 10/20. The flowers wilted and the site is now occupied by a fitness centre. Thankfully the ornate plasterwork and the wonderful tiling at the front of the building have survived.

Brief history: The Trocadero dated from as far back as 1764. Like so many of the town's pubs, it had been part of the tied estate of local brewers Russell's, before passing to Truman's on takeover in 1930. It is a pity that its life as a pub seems to have come to an end after all this time and it is questionable whether its targeting of a youthful clientele in the years leading up to closure was a wise move.
