NOTICE: Venues need your support more than ever during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Under this stage of the roadmap in England pubs can only open outdoor areas and many will only be open for customers who have pre-booked. Alcohol can now also be sold for takeaway, as well as delivery.

But please be aware that opening hours and services may be different to those displayed here. Before visiting or ordering from any venue, we strongly advise you to check its website or social media, or get in touch with them first to avoid disappointment.

If you see any details here that need updating, please let us know by submitting feedback on the pub.

About the Pub

Popular, 17th century pub clinging to the side of the Slad valley with superb views. Achieved fame through the late 'Cider with Rosie' author Laurie Lee, who was a regular and instrumental in saving the pub from closure. The pub has been thoughtfully restored, including the addition of built-in dark wooden settles in the end rooms. Outside at the front there is a long fixed table and seating which serves as a smoking area - protected by a canvas awning in wet weather - together with a raised decked patio area down steps to one side and toilets down steps on the other. Parking on the road in front and down a lane to the rear. Dogs and walkers welcome.
