Notice: Venues need your support more than ever as they recover following the pandemic.

Please be aware that venues may choose to keep some measures in place for the safety of customers and staff, and that opening hours and services may be different to those displayed here. Before visiting or ordering from any venue, we advise you to check its website or social media, or get in touch with them first to avoid disappointment.

If you see any details here that need updating, please let us know by submitting updates on the pub.

About the Pub

One of several pubs which claim to be the oldest in Glasgow, it certainly looks the part with its half-timbered frontage, wood panelling, dark wooden benches and low ceilings. A firm fixture on the folk music scene for decades, the likes of Hamish Imlach and Billy Connolly performed here and there are still regular sessions and live bands. There are three distinct areas – one closer to the band, one to the bar – and a cosy snug which features a framed portrait of local First World War revolutionary John Maclean on the wall. In 2018 the kitchen was removed to enlarge the cellar and bring back real ale after a few years’ gap, so there is now no food but better beer.
