Notice: Venues need your support more than ever during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Under level three of the roadmap in Scotland, pubs can open indoor areas for food and non-alcoholic drinks, while alcohol can only be served in outdoor areas. Many pubs will only be open for customers who have pre-booked.

But please be aware that opening hours and services may be different to those displayed here. Before visiting or ordering from any venue, we strongly advise you to check its website or social media, or get in touch with them first to avoid disappointment.

If you see any details here that need updating, please let us know by submitting feedback on the pub.

About the Pub

Attractive, comfortable pub set in an historic village now absorbed by the city. Refurbished to a very high standard in May 2019 under new management. Bar located in front area furnished with high stools and high tables and other areas furnished with booths and tables mainly for dining. A conservatory area has windows that overlook the garden and Colinton Dell. Three course meals or bar bites are freshly prepared and served all day. The changing real ales are usually one at session ale strength and one at 4.5 to 5% ABV. Ideal stop when walking the Water of Leith path. Previously known as Spylaw Tavern, Royal Scot and Colinton Dell Railway Inn. The railway connection explains the 1874 logo as that is when the Colinton Railway Station opened (closed in 1967). SIBA sourced ales tend to be from a 50 mile radius. Rate my beer is used to help decide choice. The premises manager also runs The Hermitage, Comiston Road in Morningside.
