About the Pub

Durham City's first micropub opened December 2015, offering real ales and ciders are served straight from the cask, alongside a small range of bottled beers, wines, spirits, quality soft drinks, tea and coffee. Locally-sourced pork pies and vegan pies are also available. Customers are served at the table or through the serving hatch directly from the cold-room. Four ever-changing local and national ales are on offer, with a dark beer always available and a fifth ale is added at weekends. No draught lager is sold, but bottles of Allendale Adder are available. Three traditional ciders, and a perry, are also available. Customers can take away 2 or 4-pint carry outs of any of the draught products, and larger quantities (18/36/72 pints) are available to order. With no music or TVs in the pub, the "back to basics" approach allows the emphasis to be on conversation. Slightly larger than the average micropub, seating is split across three areas, with tall stools and large benches in the main room, a snug area to the rear with fixed bench seating, and an upstairs room (also available to hire) with cafe-style tables and chairs. Two rocking chairs by the large windows in the main room are highly sought after. Dog friendly, well-behaved children are also welcome until 9pm. Several groups are now based here, including the weekly Games Night (Tuesday), weekly Craft Night (Wednesday), and monthly Book Club, as well as other unaffiliated interest and community groups which use the space for meetings and socials - a real community pub. Beer festivals are held twice a year (Spring/Autumn). Voted local branch Town Cider Pub of the Year 2017-19 and North East Regional Cider Pub of the Year 2017.
