About the Pub

This micropub, formerly a shop, is situated on the edge of Dover's shopping precinct. Run by Peter and Kathryn Garstin, former landlords of the Yew Tree, Barfrestone, and Blakes of Dover, it provides a welcoming haven from the bustling town centre.

A constantly changing list of four or more real ales is available from a variety of local breweries. The sign on the front of the pub clearly indicates that “There is no 'f'in Lager', however their regular beer, Westerham's Bohemian Rhapsody, is a gluten-free unrefined pilsner served from KeyKeg.

They also have a good range of draught ciders from rare and smaller cider makers, from Kent and further afield.

Real ales and ciders are served on gravity dispense from a temperature controlled cellar room, which has one hand pump, used to dispense northern beers in the proper manner.

Lined glasses are typically used for lively ales but are available on request.

Inside, a 200 year old church pulpit forms the bar and there's plenty of comfortable seating, including a sofa and soft armchairs.

There is a piano and a guitar in the pub which customers are welcome to play if they wish, so occasional, impromptu jam sessions do happen.

The Mash Tun does not provide food cooked on the premises, but they have arrangements with local food outlets which gives you loads of choice, including an Italian, a Chinese noodle bar, an Indian restaurant, fish & chip shop and a kebab shop. They are all within 100 yards and will deliver. You are also welcome to take your own food. On Sunday, home-made nibbles are served.

The pub is a short walk from Dover's bus station on Pencester Road. There is a public car park opposite the pub with free parking for blue badge holders.

Although closed on Monday to Wednesday, the pub will open for parties and function by arrangement.
