About the Pub

Lying between the River Mersey and the St Helens Canal, the Ferry Tavern was first licensed in 1762. A single bar serves three regular beers plus five rotating guest ales from all over the country. The pub also holds Brewery Tap Takeovers evenings that are held on the last Saturday of every month. The bar also stocks over 100 whiskies from around the world. The fish and chips are highly recommended and there are also homemade pies available at the bar.

The pub holds a cask ale club on Tuesdays, with all cask ale priced at £2.50. Wednesdays sees a smart phone quiz, with a ‘play your cards right’ and raffle on Thursdays. The pub also boasts gin nights on Saturdays, with a traditional quiz held on Sunday evenings.

Four beer festivals are held throughout the year, each offering 20 beers. Additionally, the Ferry Tavern is famous for its biannual music festival “Glastonferry”. This event is held in June and September and features local bands and regionally well known tribute acts. Tickets are very sought after and available via the website and behind the bar.

To the right of the bar, a quiet lounge features photographs and information about the pub's 250 year history, mostly compiled by present licensee Andy. With the Transpennine Trail nearby, it is a popular stop-off for walkers and cyclists.

Open all day Bank Holiday Mondays.

The pub clocked up 20 years continuously in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide with the 2018 edition, is a previous winner of the local CAMRA branch Pub of the Season as well as being Pub of the Year runner up 2018.
