About the Pub

Previously known as Oscars; before that the Three Lamps, and originally the Cheese Hall! Now back to it's original name although much altered internally since 2001. Town centre open plan pub, next to the Market Hall on Hill Street. In the 'good old days', it was reputed to have had a direct link from the backstage of the Lyceum Theatre into what was then the 'Edam Room'. Now part of Marston's Group, before that, Enterprise and originally, Whitbread. Closed December 2015. For sale January 22nd 2016. Reopened 23rd February 2016, but still for sale. Closed at beginning May 2016. Amber Taverns notice in window re internal changes and variation of licence. Interior totally gutted July 2016.
